Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, to Leave PlayStation Management in 2023

Prezident a CEO Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan will end in PlayStation management. He will leave the company in March next year. He spent almost 30 years working with Sony consoles. Operations and finance director Hiroki Totoki will take over his duties at least temporarily while the manufacturer looks for a permanent replacement. Jim Ryan justified his departure by saying that it is increasingly difficult for him to combine life in Europe and work in North America. Otherwise, he appreciated the opportunity to work in an exceptional company with great people and amazing partners.

“PlayStation will always be a part of my life.”

Ryan says he has had the privilege of working on products that have impacted the lives of millions of people around the world. “PlayStation will always be a part of my life and I feel more optimistic than ever about the future of SIE,” he said. He also thanked his longtime colleague and Sony veteran. Shuhei Yoshida trusted him and supported him in leadership.

The head of Sony, Kenichiro Yoshida, said that Jim Ryan was an inspirational leader throughout his career at Sony, but especially during the launch of the PS5 console during the covid pandemic. “I am extremely grateful to Jim for all of his accomplishments,” he said, adding that he respects his decision to end his long career at Sony.

Ryan has led Sony’s gaming division since February 2019

Interim CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Hiroki Totoki thanked Jim Ryan for his achievements and contributions to the company. And he also appreciated the participation in the successful launch of PlayStation 5 in a complicated time. Hiroki Totoki has been speaking for PlayStation more and more recently – especially when dealing with financial results and business plans, so this seems like a natural change.

The first piece of information was unofficially reported by Bloomberg in an article by Jason Schreier. But Sony very quickly confirmed it last night. Ryan has led Sony’s gaming division since February 2019. Prior to that, he headed Sony Computer Interactive Europe. During his time in the top management, he drew attention to himself in the past with some unpopular statements, and in recent months quite naturally, fans have most often seen his name in connection with the dispute between the FTC and Microsoft regarding the purchase of Activision Blizzard.
