Mayor Femke Halsema has made one thing clear in the Amsterdam council: restricting freedom of speech is unacceptable to her. With this she responded, among other things, to the statements of Imam Elforkani, who felt that the freedom of expression could be somewhat limited so that the prophet Mohammed was insulted less often. Halsema, however, does not want to know anything about this, the VvMU is a sacred fundamental right for her!
Mayor Halsema deserves a compliment for this afternoon’s performance. She spoke out clearly in favor of freedom of expression (VvMU) and against the terror of jihadists. She also believes that these jihadists are abusing our fundamental rights.
‘Our freedom is anchored in our fundamental rights and no compromises are possible. Jihadists and their henchmen abuse fundamental rights with the aim of destroying them. We cannot allow that. Others suggest restricting freedom of speech just a little so that no one gets offended. Unacceptable. Still others argue that we should now restrict freedom of religion. That is also not possible. Our fundamental rights and our freedom are there for everyone and are indivisible. ‘
She will soon also be talking to Imam Elforkani about this topic. She will then, she says, repeat this message.
