Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See, who is on a visit to our country.
SIA reports with reference to AZERTAC that the current situation and prospects of Azerbaijan-Vatican relations, the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the current situation in the region were discussed during the conversation.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed his confidence that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the relations between our countries, and in this regard, Azerbaijan’s new embassy in the Vatican will serve the further development of cooperation. It was noted that the exchange of high-level visits between the two sides gave impetus to the development of these relations.
The Minister also gave detailed information to the other side about the situation after the 44-day Patriotic War, as well as the crimes, vandalism and destroyed cultural and religious heritage in our territories freed from occupation. At the same time, detailed information was provided about the mine threats and other provocations committed and continued by Armenia. It was pointed out that there is still no information about more than 3,800 missing Azerbaijanis since the 1990s.
In addition to the above, it was recalled that Armenia did not comply with confidence-building measures regarding the return of servicemen who accidentally crossed the border.
At the meeting, Azerbaijan’s participation in the restoration of the historical and religious sites of the Vatican was noted with satisfaction, and it was noted that this is considered as a contribution to intercultural dialogue.
The parties also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
