“The vaccination will be available to the entire population as early as April,” Donald Trump announced on Friday afternoon, “with the exception of places like New York State.”
Tensions between the US president and the Democratic governor of New York state have increased in recent months due to coronavirus and Black Lives Matter protests. Cuomo had apparently only suspected an election campaign behind the euphoric vaccine announcements by the president before the election and did not trust Trump. He had announced that he would have a possible vaccine checked independently.
“We won’t deliver the vaccine to New York until we have approval,” said Trump broadly against the Democrats after his election defeat.
