The CEO of Viralgen, Javier García Cogorro, will receive the Golden Drum on January 20, 2023, on the occasion of San Sebastián Day. The Board of Spokespersons of the city council agreed this Friday, by majority, to award the award to this businessman specializing in health-related projects, after discussing the 133 candidacies submitted by citizens.
The mayor of San Sebastián, Eneko Goia, stressed that the groups have agreed to award the Golden Drum to García Cogorro “for his career and contribution to promoting San Sebastián internationally as a city of science and knowledge”. Goia has pointed out that the general director of this company “has demonstrated a very great link and involvement” with the city “in the field in which he works, gene therapy” and that his work in the last “five or six years” front of Viralgen, has placed San Sebastián “in the first level of this type of therapy, making it a benchmark”.
Javier García Cogorro (Madrid, 1963) is the CEO of Viralgen, a company specialized in the production of viral vectors for gene therapy located in the Miramón Technology Park. He is one of the founders of the specialized investment fund Columbus Venture Partners and has developed his professional career as a specialized investor in the biotechnology sector.
The Golden Drum 2023 succeeds in this distinction the artist Esther Ferrer, who received the award in the last edition and which has also previously been obtained, among others, by the chefs Luis Irizar, Martín Berasategui and Pedro Subijana, the sculptor Cristina Iglesias, the social activist Rosa García, the group La Oreja de Van Gogh, soccer players Alfredo Di Stefano and Xabi Alonso, filmmaker Elías Querejeta and journalist Iñaki Gabilondo.
Javier García Cogorro will receive the highest award of the city in an act that will take place in the San Sebastián town hall, on January 20, on the occasion of San Sebastián Day.
