Jason Kidd emerges as candidate for Celtics vacancy

Former player, manager and Basketball Hall of Famer Jason Kidd is mentioned as a possible candidate to coach both the Portland Trail Blazers and the Boston Celtics.

According to CBS Sports, Hoops Rumors and other online portals, Kidd could be interested in Portland management should they decide to end their relationship with Terry Stotts following the team’s elimination on Thursday at the hands of the Denver Nuggets.

In the case of the Celtics, they promoted manager Brad Stevens to fill the position of Danny Ainge, who announced his retirement as president of basketball operations for Boston. The leadership position was vacated after the announcement.

According to the same media, Chauncey Billups, former player and assistant with the Los Angeles Clippers, would also be considered for the position of manager of Boston like Lloyd Pierce, former manager of the Atlanta Hawks.

Kidd has spent the past two seasons as assistant coach Frank Vogel in front of the Los Angeles Lakers, where he apparently made a good impression with his work.

Kidd has been a property manager on two previous occasions. He led the Nets during the 2013-14 season and then led the Milwaukee Bucks between 2014 and 2018.

He has had several problems with the law including charges of abuse and gender violence, in addition to charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI).
