Jason Dupasquier serious in hospital: the embrace of the MotoGP riders

The MotoGP riders gather around Jason Dupasquier, the 19-year-old Swiss victim of a bad accident at Mugello that recalls Marco Simoncelli …

The bad accident at Mugello during the Moto3 qualifying it has greatly shaken the MotoGP riders. Jason Dupasquier’s condition immediately appeared serious, but the first official news arrived only hours later. Giancarlo di Filippo, FIM medical officer, announced what was known in these hours: “Jason Dupasquier was involved in a very serious accident during the Q2 of the Moto3. The FIM medical intervention team arrived immediately at the scene of the accident, then he was transferred to the Careggi Hospital in Florence in stable haemodynamic conditions and updates from the hospital are expected. At the moment we know for sure that it is in very serious condition and as I said we are waiting for updates“.

The fourth MotoGP free practice session and therefore also qualifying have been postponed by 30 minutes. Waiting for a helicopter to take the Swiss pilot away. His conditions remain very difficult, so much so that it was decided to postpone the operation due to the double head trauma, very serious, and thoracic. The television images did not postpone what happened. We only know that Jason Dupasquier lost control of his KTM at the exit of the Arrabbiata 2, after a change of slope, and the two riders behind, Ayumu Sasaki and Jeremy Alcoba, could not avoid it.

The premier class show hasn’t stopped. But most of the riders dedicated a thought to the young colleague from Moto3 at the end of qualifying. “It is very difficult to manage – dice Pol Espargarò -, because in those previous moments you open your eyes and say it’s not real. You can’t know what happened because it was very difficult. Unfortunately this is what happened today. Best wishes to Jason, I have no information on that. I hope to see him again in the race“.

Even the “landlord” Valentino Rossi commented on what happened, probably thinking back to Marco Simoncelli’s accident in Malaysia. “What happened in Moto3 is the most dangerous thing that can happen in a motorcycle race. You can work a lot on the slopes, suits, helmets, etc. This thing is still very dangerous. You could also do different qualifications, but then in the race they are always all together“. The reigning MotoGP champion Joan Mir he claims: “Situations of this type are difficult to manage. We were very focused on going out and couldn’t do it because it wasn’t clear what was going on… We all play at hurting ourselves. I have no information on what happened, I hope Jason is fine and everything was a scare“.

He poleman Fabio Quartararo dedicates his extraordinary result to him. “It’s a good day for us but a bit sad for Dupasquier, I dedicate the pole to him“. Tomorrow will be another match against Pecco Bagnaia whose words are even more touching. “I really hope Jason Dupasquier can fight with all his might. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for him in his fight to stay here with us“. Finally the KTM rider Brad Binder: “It is a terrible feeling to see those images. It was difficult to get back in the saddle. But we also know it’s a dangerous sport. We have to ignore it, otherwise we couldn’t do this job“.
