Japanese retro game group gives away 100 NES consoles to families with children

The Japan Retro Game Association (JARGA) is fighting to keep the passion for old video games alive. Among other things, the group organizes panels and workshops in which gamers learn how to properly restore their old treasures. Of course, the old consoles are also played properly, after all, the games are part of the technological cultural heritage.

However, all the planned ones fall JARGA– Meeting due to Corona currently until further notice. However, the group has therefore not stopped its activities because of this. In the current situation, the organization wants to help children looking for protection from corona and give them a bit of variety.

Fun to play with a retro look

The JARGA announced that it would have 100 Nintendo Super Famicom (Super NES) wants to donate to households where children have to stay in the house. The retro systems are free of charge, the families only have to pay for the console, which, depending on the recipient, can cost up to 1,500 yen.

In addition to the console, the packages contain a suitable power supply, an A / V connection cable and a controller. Since such a console makes no sense without games, the JARGA includes a copy of Final Fantasy VI from Square Enix and a game for Nintendo’s Donkey Kong Country in the packages.

The JARGA explains why the organization chose these games by saying that they are very easy to play and are therefore fun for beginners. In addition, the retro games are among the most popular that have ever been played on the NES consoles, which in itself speaks for their quality.

Families should apply

Families who have children aged 16 or younger in their household can send an email to JARGA for such a console. Simply write “SFC プ レ ゼ ン ト 係” (Super Famicom gift coordinator) in the subject and name, address and telephone number and you’re there. The application deadline is April 26th.

Since the consoles to be given away are used devices, the JARGA points out that these can show signs of use such as scratches and discolouration. However, all devices work perfectly, which was checked again by those responsible for the organization.
