Jan Žižka as an action hero

Žižka himself is played by American Ben Foster, other roles by Michael Caine, Matthew Goode, Til Schweiger and Vinzenz Kiefer. Czech actors Karel Roden, Ondřej Vetchý, Marek Vašut, Jan Budař or Ben Cristovao will appear, and non-actors such as Lukáš Krpálek, David Svoboda and Roman Šebrle.

“The political situation then was very similar to our current one. The politicians were arguing, they wanted to grab as much power and money as possible,” Jákl claims. “At that time, Jan Hus began to preach in the Bethlehem Chapel, and events took place that eventually led to his burning.”

The film takes place in a time about which we know very little, and almost nothing about the real Žižek’s youth. The film’s Žižka and a group of his mercenaries are hired to protect the king’s representative. Jan will demonstrate great strategic and combat skills. Subsequently, he is entrusted with the service for the king himself, Wenceslas IV.

But the land is actually controlled by Henry of Rožmberk, the richest magnate in the kingdom. Jan is given the delicate task of kidnapping Rožmberk’s fiancee Kateřina. This inevitably gets him involved in high politics. From that moment on, he has no choice. They have to fight.

Jan Žižka’s film will be released in Czech cinemas on September 8. It will also be shown abroad, which is why two language versions of the film were created, in the original with subtitles and in the Czech dubbing.
