Making Way for the New Superman

James Gunn, famous for his work on numerous superhero films, including the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise, has revealed the official title of his upcoming Superman film. Dropping the initially proposed name “Superman: Legacy,” Gunn took to social media to announce that the much-anticipated movie will simply be called “Superman”. The film’s first day of filming has commenced, and its release date is scheduled for July 2025.

Sneak Peek: The New Superman Logo

Accompanying Gunn’s announcement, he shared a captivating image of the Superman logo from the film. The logo, dusted with snow, suggests a chilly scene set in the iconic Fortress of Solitude, Superman’s arctic sanctuary.

Recalling a Classic

The title “Superman” was previously used in 1978 for the iconic film that starred Christopher Reeve and was directed by Richard Donner. While the movie was commonly known as “Superman: The Movie,” Gunn’s upcoming film will simply be branded as “Superman” to pay homage to the beloved original.

Star-Studded Cast

Gunn’s “Superman” film will feature David Corelswet as the beloved superhero Clark Kent, also known as Superman. Accompanying Corelswet is Rachel Brosnahan, who will portray the talented reporter Lois Lane from the fictional “Daily Planet” news organization. Additionally, Nicholas Hoult will delight audiences as the classic villain, Lex Luthor. Gunn ensures that this combination of talented actors will bring fresh life to the beloved characters.

A New Era for Superman

The scheduled release of Gunn’s film, on July 11, 2025, marks the return of a solo Superman film after a long hiatus. The last standalone Superman project was director Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” back in 2013, which featured Henry Cavill as the iconic superhero.

A Stellar Supporting Cast

In addition to the main cast, the film boasts a stellar ensemble of supporting actors. Skyler Gisondo will portray the lovable Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio will bring to life the character of Eve Teschmacher, and Edi Gathegi will embody the role of Mister Terrific. Other notable names include Terence Rosemore as Otis, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer.

Gunn: A Fervent Superman Enthusiast

Known for his passion for superheroes, Gunn shared his deep connection with Superman. He revealed, “I completely relate to Superman because he’s everything I am. He’s somebody who is an outsider who feels like an alien, but also the ultimate insider, because he’s Superman. And that’s kind of like what I feel like.”
