Director James Cameron has his doubts about his violent scenes Terminatormovie. The Canadian filmmaker would approach gunfights differently these days, he says Wednesday Middle Eastern squire.

Cameron is currently having success with Avatar: The Way of Water. He says he cut 10 minutes of gun violence from that film. “I wanted to get rid of some of that ugliness,” the director explains. “To find a balance between light and dark.”

Weapons have not completely disappeared Avatars. “Obviously you have to have a conflict,” says Cameron. “Violence and action are the same depending on how you look at it. That’s every action director’s dilemma. And I’m known as an action director.”

The Canadian broke through in 1984 with The Terminator, about a humanoid robot who travels back in time to kill a rebel. Seven years later, he also directed the sequel, often cited as one of the greatest action films of all time.

“When I think back to some of the movies, I don’t know if I would still want to do the same movie now,” Cameron says. “I don’t know if I would still glorify firearms like I did the Terminatorfilm more than thirty years ago”.

“My stomach is turning over what’s going on with firearms these days,” says the Avatars-director. “I’m glad I live in New Zealand. They just banned all assault rifles there, two weeks after that horrible mosque bombing.”

The sequel to Avatars raised more than $950 million (€892 million) worldwide. Three more sequels have been announced. These films are scheduled for 2024, 2026 and 2028.
