We all know Serena Williams’ extraordinary career, which is literally studded with Grand Slam trophies and countless victories. The American was also able to stand out in doubles, where she took first place in the WTA rankings in 2010 and won 14 major titles.
Even very strong in mixed doubles, she won the 1998 edition of Wimbledon and the US Open in this specialty and reached the Roland Garros final in the same year.
James Blake praises Serena Williams
Compatriot James Blake, Serena’s former partner on the court in the early 2000s, shared an interesting post on Twitter about her 2003 Hopman Cup campaign in which he joked, “My hair is gone now, but Serena’s still her best of all.
It was a very fun week. Spending time with the GOAT is always a fond memory. “In this edition of the Hopman Cup, the Americans of James Blake and Serena Williams defeated Belgium, Spain and Uzbekistan in Group A of the first group and then defeated Australia, led by Lleyton Hewitt and Alicia Molik, in the series finals in their favor by 3- 0.
It was the States’ second success in the competition after 1997 (thanks to Justin Gimelstob and Chanda Rubin). With a total of six wins, the USA are in first place in this special ranking (today they have not won since 2011), in second place we find both Spain and Switzerland, who have been able to win the tournament in the last two years, in which it took place (2018 and 2019) to win.
Blake, formerly number 4 in the world, reached the quarter-finals at the Australian Open and Flushing Meadows and played the last act of the 2006 finals, which was beaten by the Swiss Roger Federer without any problems. In his career he won ten major tour titles and also reached the finals in two Masters 1000 events (also defeated by Federer).
