The Jalisco Health Secretariat confirmed 12 more cases of influenza and the first death in 2023, for which reason it recommended applying the vaccine and reinforcing other prevention measures, given the low temperatures that have been registered in the last hours throughout the State.
In week three of 2023, 12 new cases of this disease and one death were reported, which are added to the accumulated 261 cases in Jalisco in the seasonal influenza season, which runs from epidemiological week 40 of 2022 to 20 of 2023. (October to March). In that same period, last year, 10 people died.

Complications, hospitalizations, and deaths from influenza are commonly reported in unvaccinated people.
The first death of 2023 due to influenza corresponds to a 68-year-old woman, a resident of the municipality of Zapopan, who as a history of risk suffered from diabetes, COPD, hypertension and obesity. The patient was not vaccinated. With this case, the number of deaths from influenza since last October is eleven.
A total of 2 million 369 thousand 350 vaccines have been applied by the various institutions of the Health Sector throughout the state. The vaccine is free and is applied in health centers of the Government of Jalisco and in medical units of the IMSS and ISSSTE.
