Jaime Jáquez Proudly Represents Mexico in NBA All-Star Weekend Dunk Contest

Even though he did not reach the final of the event won by Mac McClung of the Osceola Magic in the G League for the second consecutive year, Jáquez was proud of his roots in his clothing.

He jumped onto the field wearing a shirt with the number 11 and on the front of it read Cultura, and above it the name of his team in ‘Spanish’, “the Heat”, in clear allusion to his country of origin.

Before the Miami player’s second shift, the NBA also had some details for Mexico.

Before he made his first jump into the hoop, the word Legado appeared on the LED screen above where the event was held, then the flag of Mexico and then the name and image of the Mexicans who have played in the NBA: Horacio Llamas , Eduardo Najera, Gustavo Ayón, Jorge Gutiérrez, Juan Toscano.

Finally the phrase “the legacy lives in” appeared and gave way to Jáquez’s presentation.

Jaime placed Shaquille O’Neal in front of the basket and jumped over him to hit a powerful one-handed dunk on his first opportunity. The judges gave it 47.4 points out of 50.

On his second chance, he had to repeat a 360-degree movement. The judges’ 46.8 left him out of the fight for a place in the final.

Jacob Toppin, also stayed in that round. The runner-up was Jayleen Brown and the winner was McClung. The latter is the fifth player to win the contest twice in a row, one of them being Michael Jordan.

All Star Weekend will end on Sunday with the all-star game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
