Jack Doohan “Moving from Red Bull F1 to Alpine is the best decision”[F1-Gate.com]

Jack Doohan, who is aiming for an F1 seat in 2024, said the decision to switch from Red Bull to F1 junior team Alpine was “the best of my career”.

Jack Doohan, formerly with the Red Bull junior team, moved up to F2 with Virtuosi Racing in partnership with Alpine ahead of the 2022 season.

In his first full season of F2, Jack Doohan took 3 pole positions, 3 wins and finished 6th overall.

With Oscar Piastri’s decision to move to McLaren, Alpine called on Jack Doohan to meet the young driver requirements for FP1 in Mexico City and Abu Dhabi, and the A522 in post-season testing in Abu Dhabi.

“If I had stayed where I was, I would never have been in this position, racing two FP1s and driving a Formula 1 car,” said Jack Doohan.

“I feel very involved in the team. They treated me very well and taught me a lot.”

“I’m happy with my decision. I think it’s the best decision I’ve made so far in my career. I’m pretty close to a place in Formula 1 next year and it’s very nice.”

Jack Doohan has hinted that he is reluctant to take over as Alpine’s official reserve driver for 2023.

“You can come to any Formula 1 race and sit there, but you’re unlikely to jump in your car, so you’ll be sacrificing some of your time because of your commitment to Formula 2.”

“I am fully focused on Formula 2 and hope to mine everything I can for the team and hopefully take on a full-time driver role in 2024 or 2025.”

“I have a lot of faith in Alpine and I have faith in them. We have to win the championship first. If things go according to plan, I’m sure we can achieve it. And if I have to sit and wait a year, that’s fine because I want to wait for Alpine’s headquarters and continue to grow with them”.

“It would be nice if it could be rented[nel 2024]but this is the future and it will be decided. If we can win and get results, it will work out naturally.”
