Jacek Sasin before the investigative commission. Hearing on “envelope” elections is underway

The case concerns the 2020 presidential elections. – We want to find out why, when everyone was locked at home, they wanted to conduct these elections “hastily”? Why, knowing that they would not have time to organize them, they still announced them and commissioned Poczta Polska to prepare them, throwing PLN 70 million down the drain? – said Dariusz Joński, KO MP and chairman of the committee.

The first question to the former deputy prime minister concerned the “originator” of postal elections. Jacek Sasin pointed to MP Adam Bielan.

The second question concerned who decided to print “envelope” election packages National Electoral Commissioną, and the Polish Security Printing Works, as well as who commissioned Poczta Polska to organize the correspondence elections. Former Minister of State Assets said that it was the decision of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawieckiwhich he did not consult with him.

Who printed them? Sasin added that it was done by the Polish Security Printing Works. Ionski stated that this was a lie. The former deputy prime minister clarified that PWPW could have commissioned someone to do this, but he does not know who, because the plant is not subordinated to the Ministry of State Assets.

In response to these questions, the former deputy prime minister emphasized several times that when preparing the postal elections, it was about “responsibility for the state” and also about meeting the statutory election deadline. Noting that the pandemic threatened millions of Poles at that time.

What kind of mailbox does Jacek Sasin have?

Joński asked about how Jacek Sasin wanted to secure mailboxes so that election packages were not stolen and copied. All the more so because one of the candidates showed his voting cards a few weeks before the elections. The former deputy prime minister replied that it is difficult to demand an answer on this matter from the Minister of State Assets.

The chairman of the commission, inquiring about the issue of protection against the theft of electoral cards, asked what kind of box Jacek Sasin had. – Well, what about “what”? The kind you can buy in a store – replied the former deputy prime minister. Joński continued: – Do you think it’s easy to take documents out of it?

The Minister of State Assets noted that discussions on security and various threats to postal elections were ongoing. He does not remember – as he said – what was agreed and how the debates on this subject took place.

Sasin stressed that he did not commission Poczta Polska to take action regarding postal elections. He also stated that the then opposition should pay for the elections that were not held. “I threw away these choices and created a new opening” – this is Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska’s statement, recalled by the former deputy prime minister, which was made when PO named its candidate for president.

Jacek Sasin – in short – replied that he did not remember, for example, who and on what terms Poczta Polska commissioned the preparation of electoral packages.

What is the investigative committee investigating?

Let us recall that in May 2020, due to the pandemic, presidential elections were to be held by correspondence. Government PiS he then pushed through the provisions on postal voting and introduced them by order of the Prime Ministerand appointed Poczta Polska to carry out the operation.

The cards were to be printed by the Polish Security Printing Works. However, the elections were not held on this date or in this formula. They cost over PLN 70 million, and the post office was left with over 26 million postal voting packages. Ultimately, the elections were held using the traditional method (at polling stations) at the end of June, and the second round – in mid-July.
