The mayor of Izyum refused to comply with the ultimatum of the Russian occupiers demanding that their equipment be allowed to pass freely to Kharkov. In retaliation, the invaders began shelling the city and actually destroyed it.

The head of the UVA noted that representatives of the occupiers approached the mayor of Izyum with a proposal to open bridges for the unimpeded advancement of their equipment towards Kharkov. However, the mayor and local residents refused to comply with this demand of the invaders.
“No, this is a Ukrainian city, and they will not help and assist the occupiers in moving across Ukraine,” Sinegubov added.
According to him, after that the invaders began to intensively fire at Izyum. Then they once again put forward an ultimatum to the local authorities with the same demand, but were refused and immediately began to destroy the city.
