Covid-19 is a new disease that does not give time to design a specific treatment. As a result, scientists have embarked on a race against the clock to find the most suitable treatment.

Chloroquine is designated as the most appropriate treatment. However, there are many who warn against its side effects, particularly cardiac. Other drugs may help manage Covid-19, including one recently discovered: ivermectin, a well-known anti-parasite in the medical world.

This FDA-approved drug has previously shown broad spectrum antiviral activity in vitro.

It limits infection with RNA viruses, a family of viruses to which the causative agent of the current COVID-19 pandemic, SARS-CoV-2, belongs.

To this end, Australian scientists have demonstrated its action on SARS-CoV-2 by an in vitro experiment. Its results were published in the scientific journal “Antiviral Research”, by the Monash University of Melbourne in Australia.

Thus, with a decrease of more than 90% in viral load, this pest control seems to present very promising results.

In just 48 hours, ivermectin reduced the virus by approximately 5,000 times in the treated samples compared to the control samples. This indicates that treatment with ivermectin resulted in the actual loss of virtually all of the viral material.

In addition, this antiparasitic has the advantage of being costly and of being administered by injection. An injectable and prolonged action form could make it possible to consider a use in prevention. Thus allowing to break the chain of transmission of SARS-CoV-2. Initially, tests on animals will be carried out. Then the molecule can be studied in humans.

Will the tests confirm its effectiveness? That’s all you could want!
