Ivan Klasni will win the court case after 12 years. Millions of euros in Pika Nona compensation

The Croatian accused three doctors of having detected kidney disease too late. The public opinion was informed about his problems in January 2007. At the end of the same month, Klasnić underwent his first transplant and the donor was his mother. This transplant, however, was rejected by the player’s body.

Two months later, the Croatian underwent a second transplant. This time the donor was his father, and the organism did not reject the organ. Klasnić returned to training in September 2007 and less than a year later played at the European Championships, where he scored a goal against the Poles in the group stage and the Turks in the quarter-finals of the tournament.

In September 2016, it turned out that the organ that had been transplanted nine years earlier was not working properly and that Klasnić was seriously ill. In October 2017, the Croatian has already undergone his third transplant.

4 million in damages after 12 years

Klasnić, now 40, sued three doctors from Werder Bremen 12 years ago for late diagnosis of the disease, which prevented him from proper treatment. The club’s former footballer demanded at least 10 million euros in court. In the first instance, the judge agreed with the Croat, ordering EUR 3 million in damages for him.

Instead, however, another medical report was commissioned which, due to bias, could not be used. The parties therefore sat down to negotiate and settle the matter amicably and were to reach an agreement in June. As reported by “Sport Bild” There will be no more court case and everything indicates that the dispute will be resolved by the end of November and Klasnić will receive EUR 4 million in compensation.

The Croatian ended his career in 2013. After leaving Werder, Bremen played successively for FC Nantes, Bolton and FSV Mainz. Klasnić scored a total of 12 goals for Croatia.
