Perhaps you discovered your car covered in yellowish dust on Wednesday morning when you left for work. And for good reason, a new cloud of sand from the Sahara flies over France, this Wednesday, March 13. This is the third episode of “sand rain” in the space of a month, after a first in mid-March and a second ten days later.

A phenomenon that could lead many motorists to wash their vehicles again… a real godsend for car washes! A situation that pushes Internet users to (nicely) wonder if the car washers are not the cause of these falls of sand.

So, are car washers in cahoots with the weather to line their pockets? Romain Venero is technical manager in several Éléphant Bleu washing stations, in Dijon (Côte-d’Or) and its surroundings. For him, the answer is very clear.

“We saw many customers who asked us if the sand rains were our fault!“, he claims, laughing. “But unfortunately, we do not yet have the power to control the weather!“

However, car wash traffic has skyrocketed during previous sandstorms. “The second lasted several days, and we were overwhelmed from day one!“, he recalls. “And inevitably, the more customers we have, the more our turnover increases.“

What we gained more with the sands of the Sahara, it was less profit than catch-up for the previous years.
