NEW YORK – When the coronavirus entered the United States for the first time, cases quickly spread in the densely populated state of New York, turning it into the epicenter of the pandemic in that country. But after an extensive quarantine, infections waned and in June people returned to something similar to normal.
Now, at a time when cases are hitting record levels in the United States, infections in the city of lights and the rest of the state have increased, although they still do not reach the levels of March, April and May.
In response, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo yesterday imposed a new round of restrictions aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus, as the rate of infected increases.
Cuomo ordered that bars, restaurants and gyms in the state closed their facilities at 10 p.m. local time every day and limited the number of people who could attend private parties to 10.

“We are seeing an increase in Covid-19 nationally and globally, and New York is a boat in the tide of Covid,” the governor told reporters, adding that a follow-up of contacts identified late-night gatherings in bars, restaurants and gyms as key transmitters of the virus in the state.
The new measures, which will take effect on Friday, came a day after California and several Midwestern states tightened restrictions on residents to try to slow the rapid spread of the virus.

The city’s public school system, the largest in the country, will suspend face-to-face learning if that figure reaches 3%.
The United States reported more than 1,450 deaths Tuesday, the highest number in a single day since mid-August, according to an analysis by Reuters.
