It’s official – Facebook introduces fees. Meta Verified is similar to Twitter Blue, but is much more expensive

And please, it happened. Until recently, we all mocked Elon Musk’s idea of introducing a paid version of Twitter, while closing some basic functionalities to free accounts … and a moment later it turned out that Mark Zuckerberg is following in his footsteps. In a short post on Facebook, the boss of Meta officially confirmed the launch of Meta Verified – paid account verification that gives access to additional options.

Meta Verified – Charges will appear on Facebook

In its basic assumptions, Meta Verified is to work in a very similar way to what we know from Twitter Blue. In exchange for a certain amount, we gain verification (confirmed by a document) profile, blue icon next to our nameaccess to better security against identity theft, and direct support with any issues.

Although Mark Zuckerberg did not mention it in his post, it is already known that Meta Verified will cover both our Facebook and Instagram profiles. Over time, an account on Meta Horizon (formerly Oculus) will probably also be added to this, which is the foundation of Meta Account, which the company strongly focuses on in connection with investments in the metaverse.

And now the most important thing, the prices. In the case of Twitter Blue, which evokes many extreme emotions, the price of the service was set at $11 for iOS users and $7.99 for those logging in from other platforms. Meta Verified, although it is supposed to offer similar functionalities, will be even more expensive.

Mark Zuckerberg announced the introduction of two price levels, also different depending on the platform. Users of the Apple ecosystem will pay more, mainly due to the commission that Tim Cook et al. takes from all companies selling anything through the AppStore. The Meta Verified price will be:

  • $11.99 (approx. PLN 53) for non-iOS buyers
  • $14.99 (approx. PLN 67) for people buying the service on iOS

Importantly, this is not a one-time payment, but a monthly subscription. If we do not pay Meta Verified for the next billing period, we will lose all existing benefits.

In a post informing about the introduction of the service, Mark Zuckerberg indicated two countries where Meta Verified will be launched as part of the pilot. These will be Australia and New Zealand. At the moment, we do not know how the dates for other regions, including Poland, are shaping up. Experience shows that it can be from several weeks to even several months. Although, considering that it’s about potentially big money – Meta probably won’t delay scaling the service for too long.
