Italy’s Main Penalty Taker for Euro 2024 Qualification – Jorginho Out?

Leverkusen

Jorginho is certain to lose his position as the main penalty taker Italian national teamfollowing his recent bad record.

Jorginho failed to execute a penalty when Italy won 5-2 over North Macedonia in the follow-up 2024 European Cup Qualification, Saturday (18/11). Jorginho’s 12th kick was too weak so the direction was read by the opposing goalkeeper.

As a result, Jorginho failed again for four consecutive opportunities from the spot with Gli Azzurri. This certainly sets a bad precedent for Jorginho, who actually has a good penalty record.

These bad statistics made Italian coach Luciano Spalletti start to think twice about entrusting Jorginho as his team’s first penalty taker.

Considering that Italy has a crucial match against Ukraine on the eighth matchday of Euro 2024 Qualification, Tuesday (21/2/2023) early morning WIB, Spalletti has decided that Jorginho will no longer carry out that task.

Spalletti will look for another player who he feels is qualified to be Italy’s main penalty taker.

“We still have other players who can be the executors. It would be a mistake of course to force Jorginho to take another penalty,” said Spalletti as quoted by Football Italia.

Matteo Politano is said to be a strong candidate to succeed Jorginho, because he scored nine goals from the 12 penalties taken. Meanwhile, Giacomo Raspadori, who has recently been a starter, has nine penalty goals from 13 opportunities.

Federico Dimarco, who plays as a defender, also scored nine penalty goals from 12 attempts. The only player who has a perfect penalty record is Gianluca Scamacca who successfully converted all six penalties he received.

So, who is your main penalty taker, Spalletti?
