Italy will decide on vaccination obligation this month, says minister | Abroad

According to the minister, the government is aiming for a vaccination rate of between 80 and 90 percent. If that target is not met, legislation will be passed to force vaccine refusers to get vaccinated. “We will decide by the end of the month.”

Such a vaccination requirement would apply to all Italians aged 12 and older. At the moment, more than 71 percent of Italians who are eligible for a corona jab have also been fully vaccinated, the government has calculated.

Italy is one of the world’s leaders in vaccination. However, there is also criticism of the government’s corona policy. Some political parties, including the Lega of the right-wing Matteo Salvini, have opposed the introduction of so-called corona passports.

Italians can show with such a ‘green pass’ that they have been vaccinated against the coronavirus or have tested negative. This is required to dine indoors at restaurants, visit museums and cinemas, and use some forms of public transportation.
