Italian Prime Minister Conte promises: no summer vacation on the balcony Abroad

Like many Europeans, the Italians are concerned that the restriction of freedom of movement due to the corona virus will make holidays impossible. Most beaches are closed to the public by the way, although that is sometimes ignored by beachgoers.

It is not yet allowed to move to another region in Italy, unless there is a very urgent reason for this. Conte did not say when that travel restriction will be lifted. “We are waiting for the epidemic to develop and will use it to establish data and make plans,” said Conte. He emphasizes that the number of new infections has been declining for some time.

Conte indicates that the relaxation of corona measures is progressing faster than previously planned. The lockdown has become somewhat less strict on 4 May and many shops are scheduled to reopen on 18 May. At the beginning of June, barber shops, cafes and restaurants would also open again.

The Prime Minister hopes that the European Union will soon guarantee that there are sufficient resources for a European recovery fund to limit the damage to the economy. That money should be available in the second half of this year. Conte fears that the economy will shrink by 9.5 percent this year. That is an optimistic estimate, according to critics.
