Extend curfews
The Italian premier Giuseppe Conte believes, however, that an extension of the restrictive measures to limit the coronavirus epidemic in his country is inevitable. Even after the epidemic has peaked and the number of infections will decrease Italy cannot immediately return to normal life. “It is obvious that the measures taken must be extended,” said the prime minister in an interview with the Milan daily Corriere della Sera (Thursday edition).
He threatened severe penalties for those who violate the curfew. Conte expressed solidarity with the mayors of the Italian municipalities, who locked the parks to prevent too many people from being outdoors. The government act with full transparency. “We do not hide anything from the citizens. Anyone who does this in other countries will bitterly regret it. We act with the greatest rigor at the same time. We have not underestimated anything and we act as if the worst scenario occurs,” said Conte.
The independent prime minister announced that his government work on another economic package that will be presented in about two weeks. The goal is to free up several billion for public investment. This should modernize the Italian road and rail network and build infrastructures on which Italy “waiting for decades”. This should get the economy moving again.
