It snowed again in western Slovakia, including Bratislava. Another wave of snow is approaching

During the night, it snowed in several places, especially in western and northwestern Slovakia. Although the snow cover is not significant, it is definitely pleasing. However, another wave of snow will soon arrive, which will bring even more significant precipitation.

Several areas of our territory, especially in western and northwestern Slovakia, woke up at dawn today. Around the pressure trough, which is located over the Black Sea, a precipitation field that brought snowfall advanced towards us.

Since the temperatures in the entire area were below freezing at night, a snow cover was formed. Snow fell in Považí, but the residents of Záhoria and Bratislava woke up before dawn, where new snow is also lying, even in these minutes. The snow cover was formed mainly in the western parts of Bratislava.

According to the data, up to 3 cm of snow fell on Spiš last night. However, the residents of the far west are also recording a similar amount of new snow. Up to 3 cm of snow fell in the vicinity of the Small Carpathians, but in Pernek, for example, the snow cover is higher. In Bratislava’s Koliba, in Lamač, in Dúbravka, or in the Old Town, 1 to 2 cm fell.

There will be snow showers

During today, precipitation activity will slowly weaken, but it should continue to occur in the area of northwestern and western Slovakia.

However, the temperatures will already go above zero and the snow cover will start to melt. So no more snow will fall. However, another, more significant wave of snow will hit our territory soon.

We are facing a blizzard

On Monday, the passage of a cold front is looming, which should progress around a pressure trough centered over the Baltic Sea and the Baltic Sea. At the same time, an extremely strong northwesterly current should form in our area.

Snowfall will occur on Monday, especially in the north, where several centimeters of new snow may fall. However, what is more important information is that it will blow over the entire area and gusty winds can reach speeds of up to over 80 km/h.

It will be windy even in lower areas in the west, but since it will snow in the north with strong winds, there is a risk of a blizzard. On Monday, we will again experience unfavorable winter weather.
