It is planned to close Tērbatas Street for a month for car traffic, allocating it to pedestrians and traders / Article / LSM.lv

It is planned to close almost the entire Tērbatas Street for vehicle traffic in Riga from July 15 to August 16, allocating it to pedestrians and traders, as well as for cultural events, according to the agenda of Tuesday’s meeting of the Riga Municipal Interim Administration.

Traffic on Tērbatas Street is planned to close on July 15 at 21.45 in the section from Elizabetes Street to Matīsa Street, as well as from Matīsa Street to the entrance to Vidzeme Market.

An exception will be made for operational and delivery transport, as well as access for residents to courtyards.

The street is planned to be handed over for trade and pedestrians from July 17.

It is planned to instruct SIA “Rīgas satiksme” to close the 1st trolleybus route, but to provide the 316 express bus route in the direction of Baznīcas Street along the route to Merķeļa Street and further along Brīvības Boulevard, Brīvības Street, Dzirnavu Street and further along the main route.

The Department of Education, Culture and Sports, in cooperation with the Riga Tourism Development Bureau, is tasked with preparing a cultural program.

In the meantime, the Housing and Environment Department of the City Council is planned to place additional waste bins, sanitary containers, hand disinfection points and other safety elements related to the restriction of the spread of Covid-19.

Other municipal institutions and departments will also have to perform various works to ensure the closure of the street, the materials needed by traders, the safety of events, cleanliness, etc.
