“It is not clear where these figures came from” – on immunity to SARS-CoV-2 in Moscow

Statements about 60% of Moscow residents with immunity to COVID-19 look at least unexpected. This was announced on July 17 by the academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, head of the department of microbiology, virology and immunology of Sechenov University, Doctor of Biological Sciences Vitaly Zverev on the TV channel “Russia 24”.

“I honestly don’t know where these 60% came from. This is a very good figure, I thought that still fewer people have immunity. But then again – what is meant? If we mean the presence of antibodies, then this is only part of the immunity. There is also cellular immunity. Therefore, these figures make me very happy, of course, but they also annoy me a little, ”Zverev said.

On July 17, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced that 60% of residents in the capital of Russia have collective immunity from the coronavirus, which is comparable to the same level for New York.
