It is fake news that the construction of the final section of the M6 is being delayed

“Due to a planning error, the construction of the M6 highway may be delayed, because a section of approximately 200 meters at the Mohács junction was not included in the public procurement procedure, nor in the design tender earlier. Due to the breakdown, another construction tender had to be issued for this road section. This leads to the fact that the implementation of the M6 may be delayed further to the Croatian border,” the left-wing press wrote, among other things.

In response to Pécs Újság’s inquiry, the Ministry of Construction and Transport denied the rumour:

“The original Concession Agreement was concluded in November 2007 by the Gyurcsány government with MAK Mecsek Autópalya Koncessziós Zrt., which was formed by foreign companies. The section in question is located in the area covered by the concession contract. The construction permit for the plans of the section was obtained by the concession company. Negotiations on the construction of the missing section began in 2021, as a result of which the Hungarian State and the concession company agreed in 2022 that NIF Zrt. would be the builder of the missing section. After the agreement, it became possible for NIF Zrt. to take over the plans for the construction of 600 meters from the concession company and to start the preparation of the public procurement procedure. The public procurement was announced in October 2022. It is currently in the evaluation phase.

The original schedule also assumed that the 600-meter section would be completed at a different time due to the settlement of legal issues surrounding the takeover.

The 600-meter section can be completed within 12 months after the effective public procurement procedure, after the contract enters into force.

The Bóly-Ivándárda section of the M6 was designed and the authority issued the construction permit in such a way that even without the 600 meters, the traffic would be able to flow continuously, and it would be able to use the collector-distributor lanes of the junction, which would ensure continuous progress.”

The claim of the left-wing press that it was recently revealed that legal problems arose in connection with the ominous section is therefore not true, nor is it true that the commissioning of the section would be delayed because of this.
