It sounds like a guaranteed recipe for failure: a drama series about the stormy rise of and murder of Pim Fortuyn, adding comedy elements to it and also a TV Canteen-like dress up party. When I put it that way, I find it no less than a miracle that a public broadcaster or broadcaster dared to take on this bizarre project in these already polarized times. But big compliments to the guts of all involved, because The year of Fortuyn is a great series. (I got to episode three this weekend, I had to and would see the infamous TV debate between a grumpy Melkert and shiny Fortuyn.)
