Israeli Soldiers Respond to Attack by Killing Palestinian Man in West Bank

Two Palestinian men attacked Israeli soldiers in the West Bank on Sunday. According to the Israeli army, they responded to the attack with fire, one of the attackers was killed, Reuters writes.

“One of the terrorists tried to stab Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers who were in the area. They responded with heavy fire and neutralized it,” Reuters quoted the military as saying. “At the same time, the second terrorist opened fire on the soldiers, who responded with live fire and neutralized him as well.”

Palestinian officials have yet to comment on the incident.

The Israeli army already started on Friday raid on a large scale in the Nur Shams district near the Palestinian city of Tulkarm, which lasted until Saturday. Fourteen Palestinians died during the intervention, according to Palestinian authorities. Citing Palestinian sources, the group also reported the death of an ambulance driver who was driving for the wounded.

The unrest in the West Bank escalated on April 12 after a 14-year-old Israeli boy disappeared in the area. His body was found the next day near the village of al-Mughayyer, said the group.

In response to this incident, the town of al-Mughayer was attacked, among others, by Israeli settlers who, according to local residents, came in larger numbers and with more weapons than in previous raids . The Palestinian community claims that the Israeli army did not stop the attackers.

In response to the conflict, the IDF said security forces were working to “dissolve the conflict and protect the property and lives of all citizens,” according to Reuters.

Violence in the West Bank, which has been going on since before the start of the Gaza war, has escalated with frequent military raids on militant groups, rampages by Jewish settlers in Palestinian towns and Palestinian street attacks, Reuters reported.
