Israeli Army Bombings in Southern Lebanon and Lebanese Foreign Minister’s Warning of Escalation

Today, Tuesday, the Israeli army renewed its bombing of targets in southern Lebanon, while a Lebanese security source reported that there were casualties among the ranks of the occupation forces, after the Lebanese Hezbollah forces targeted a vehicle in the town of Metulla, while Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib warned that the Israeli attacks It adds “oil to the fire” and threatens to ignite the front in southern Lebanon.

Israeli Radio said that the Israeli army is intensively bombarding many targets in southern Lebanon, after launching an anti-armor shell from Lebanon towards the town of Metulla.

The same source indicated that the mayor of Metulla asked the remaining residents to leave the town immediately, and the Israeli army declared Metulla a closed military zone.

The Al Jazeera correspondent reported – quoting a security source – that there were confirmed casualties among the ranks of the Israeli forces, after Hezbollah forces targeted a vehicle in Metulla. The Al Jazeera correspondent also explained that the Israeli army bombed the vicinity of the town of Kafr Kila in the eastern sector of southern Lebanon. It was also announced that 4 militants were killed in an attempt to Infiltration at the border with Lebanon.

Last Sunday, the Israeli army announced that “one person was killed and a number of others were wounded in gunfire from Lebanon,” and responded by imposing a ban and closure in towns near the border, while Hezbollah said that it bombed an Israeli Merkava tank and that its crew was killed and wounded.

The Israeli army also admitted earlier, “at least 4 casualties in an anti-tank missile attack from Lebanon on an Israeli border village,” before announcing that “an Israeli border military site came under fire from Lebanon, after the bombing of Shtoula.”

Hezbollah said that its targeting of the Israeli army in Shtoula came “in response to the martyrdom and wounding of journalists and citizens” in southern Lebanon, before the party announced in a later statement that it was attacking the Israeli monk site “with appropriate weapons in the context of our response to the attacks on our border villages.”

The Lebanese-Israeli border has witnessed increasing tension since the Palestinian resistance launched Operation Al-Aqsa Flood a week ago, and in light of the occupation army’s raids on the Gaza Strip since October 7.

The Lebanese position

Commenting on the escalation of tension in southern Lebanon, the Lebanese Foreign Minister warned that the Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon add “oil to the fire” and threaten to ignite the front.

During his meeting with a number of ambassadors of the countries participating in the International Emergency Forces operating in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL), the Lebanese minister called for assistance in calming the situation on the southern border.

Abdullah Bou Habib said, “During the meeting, the situation in southern Lebanon and Gaza was discussed,” demanding that “Israel stop the bombing, especially since Lebanon’s response is to the occupied Lebanese Shebaa Farms.”
