Israel to Allow Humanitarian Aid to Enter Gaza Strip: Announcement by Benjamin Netanyahu

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced this evening, Wednesday, that Israel “will not obstruct the entry of humanitarian supplies from Egypt into the Gaza Strip as long as they are limited to food, water and medicine for the civilian population located in the southern Gaza Strip or who are evacuated there.”

The occupation authorities asked the International Committee of the Red Cross to visit the Israeli prisoners held by the resistance factions in the Gaza Strip, and the statement stressed that the Israeli government “is working to mobilize broad international support for this request.”

Netanyahu’s office said that these decisions, which were issued by the Israeli “war cabinet,” come at the request of US President Joe Biden to provide “basic humanitarian aid” to the besieged Gaza Strip.

The statement stated that this comes in light of the “overwhelming and vital American support for the Israeli war effort” in the aggression against the besieged Gaza Strip. The statement coincided with the speech with which US President Joe Biden concluded his solidarity visit to Tel Aviv.

After Biden left Tel Aviv, Netanyahu said in a statement he issued that the most prominent thing that Israel succeeded in achieving through Biden’s visit was obtaining “enormous security assistance, assistance on an unprecedented scale, including assistance that ensures the strengthening of our military capacity.”

Regarding the Israeli prisoners held by the resistance factions in Gaza, Netanyahu said, “I demanded the return of the hostages, and we are working together to return them in any way possible.” He added, “Secondly, until they are returned, we demand that the Red Cross visit the hostages. Thirdly, we will not allow humanitarian aid from Israel to enter.” Gaza, including food and medicine.

Biden said that Israel has agreed to allow aid to enter the Gaza Strip from Egypt, noting that the United States is working with its partners to “move trucks across the border as quickly as possible.”
