Israel Summons Belgian Ambassador Over Accusations of Destroying Palestinian Villages

Israel summoned Belgian Ambassador Jean-Luc Budson to the Foreign Office after the Belgian Minister’s statement that Israel was “destroying Palestinian villages”.

This is reported Israel Today.

Israeli Ambassador Idith Rosenzweig-Abu also sent a letter of protest to the Belgian Foreign Ministry and called the minister’s statements “slanderous and defamatory”.

The scandal came after Belgian Development Cooperation Minister Caroline Gennes said that “an unstable situation is happening in the occupied Palestinian territories – the Israelis are wiping entire villages off the face of the earth.” The Belgian official said the periods of “escalation of violence have become shorter, but more frequent and intense.”

The day before, we wrote that Palestinians threw stones at buses on Highway 55, as a result of which two Israeli drivers were injured. The incident took place near the village of Nabi Ilyas near the Jordan River. One of the drivers received minor injuries to his arm and shoulder. The second Israeli is in the face area. The injured were taken to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba.

Earlier, the IDF reported on the number of detained Palestinians since the beginning of the year. Thus, the Israeli security forces detained about 1,560 wanted Palestinians and confiscated 750 illegal firearms.
