Israel launches airstrikes on Lebanon after shelling from Lebanese territory

Israel has launched airstrikes on targets in neighboring Lebanon in response to shelling from Lebanese territory. According to the Israeli army, several missile launch sites were the target.

Three rockets were fired at Israel from southern Lebanon yesterday. No injuries were reported, according to the Israeli Red Cross, but the rockets did cause serious fires. Israel responded immediately with artillery fire.

The attacks from Lebanon have not been claimed. According to international news agencies, the missiles were fired from Lebanese territory controlled by the militant Hezbollah movement, which is backed by Iran.

‘Warning’

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said the airstrikes were intended as a warning. “Obviously we could do a lot more, but we hope that won’t be necessary.” President Aoun of Lebanon has condemned the attacks and speaks of aggression against his country.

The bombings follow tensions surrounding the attack on an oil tanker off the coast of Oman last week. In addition, two crew members for life.

The tanker was operated by Zodiac Maritime, a British company owned by an Israeli billionaire. Israel, the United States and the United Kingdom hold Iran responsible for the attack, which may have been carried out with a drone, but Tehran has denied the allegations.
