Coming from the west, heavy thunderstorms with hail, heavy rain and gusts of wind swept over French-speaking Switzerland and the canton of Bern on Sunday evening. The Meteocentrale weather service issued a red level severe weather warning for Bern from around 9 p.m. to 10:15 p.m.
Within a short time, torrential rain poured down over the city of Bern, accompanied by thunder and lightning. Around 10 p.m. the loud spectacle over the federal city was over for the time being, but about 20 minutes later a second wave of precipitation rolled in.
