The Brooklyn Nets recently formed the super trio of Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant and James Harden. How these trio coexist has also become a major issue. Former NBA player Matt Barnes said when talking about the Big Three that the Nets should use Irving in exchange for the depth of the team’s bench.
Barnes said, “I will use Irving to change the depth of the bench, so the Nets will be pretty scary.” The Nets paid the price of a few bench players in order to get Harden, and the draft pick.
After acquiring Harden, the Nets successfully completed the impossible task this season, and this deal made them the main contender for the championship. The Nets gave us a glimpse of the ability of the double star combination in their victory over the Magic yesterday. Harden played a top three-year-old in his first appearance, scoring 32 points, 14 assists and 12 rebounds. This is the same as KD. His 42 points and 61% field goal percentage complement each other.
What is even more impressive is that they achieved such results without Irving. If Harden and KD can continue to play similar performances, then we’d better take Barnes’ comments seriously, and building a solid bench lineup is more meaningful than dealing with Irving’s dramatic performance.
In order to get Harden, the Nets sent out four bench players, Caris LeVert, Jarrett Allen, Taurean Prince and Rodions Kurucs, especially LeVert and Jarrett Allen for the Nets’ bench firepower and inside defense, plus injury reimbursement sixth. The human Spencer Dinwiddie, the Nets’ current bench lineup has basically no people available except Landry Shamet and Jeff Green. After the trade, there was a serious vacancy in the Nets’ bench lineup after the trade. They lacked inside and outside substitutes. It is impossible for the Big Three to support the entire game. Now that Irving’s return date is uncertain, he has always been an unstable factor. If Irving can’t run in with KD and Harden, it does not rule out the possibility of a deal.
