With the approximately 800 meter long track, a bottleneck in the Frankfurt track system will be removed.
“The problems that we solve at the Frankfurt hub have an impact on the entire network,” said Ronald Pofalla (62), Director of Infrastructure at Deutsche Bahn (DB), during the commissioning.
The additional infrastructure enables less waiting times and more punctual trains, emphasized the Hessian Transport Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (50, Greens).

According to the railway, the important access route to Frankfurt Central Station will gain significantly in stability thanks to the additional track. Long-distance and local trains benefited from the additional capacity, it said.
According to Pofallas, Deutsche Bahn invested 180 million euros in the Homburger Damm construction project together with the federal government.
In addition, according to the information, the prerequisites for a “re-sorting” of the trains in Frankfurt Central Station will be created. In the future, long-distance trains will mainly enter and leave the tracks in the southern area of the station, while regional trains will use the tracks in the northern area
