Is it flashing for better times? Covid Passport will be tested by the first airlines on the route between Belgrade and Zurich | Transport

BELGRADE / PRAGUE Serbian national carrier Air Serbia will test the first covid passport in live operation on board aircraft. It is a mobile version that came with the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Behind this is the effort to resume air travel by summer as much as possible.

For more than a year now, international carriers and all those involved in tourism have been looking for a way out of the “stopwatch” given to them by the coronavirus pandemic. That’s why IATA has joined the initiative, recently unveiling its own mobile application to meet national requirements and greatly simplify travel during a pandemic – and it looks like it could be the first device of its kind to be put into practice.

As the server informed Euractiv.com, Air Serbia passengers will encounter the first version of the Passover passport in the coming weeks, on the route between Belgrade and Zurich.

Tests and vaccinations

Vaccination is supposed to be the most important thing for trouble-free travel, but this year it is still combined with a negative test for covid-19. The so-called IATA Travel pass would then have a record of the status of each passenger and the history of the results of his covid tests. The data would be received online by the airline before arrival at the airport. The application should also provide passengers with updated conditions for entering individual countries.

In any case, it should ring for mandatory quarantines. Singapore Airlines, Etihad, Emirates and other large airlines have already tested the IATA application in a pilot operation.

The European Union also wants to resume travel within Europe, especially before the coming summer season. The European Commission should present the specific form of uniform covid passports as early as next Wednesday.

It is an effort of all states to return tourism ideally to pre-crisis dormitories by the beginning of summer. The industry employs millions of people, but it also makes a significant contribution to the economies of most countries. However, it is not yet clear whether a single certificate for Europe will be negotiated. In addition, some states point out that so-called covid passports must not be discriminatory.
