That question is what the BBC is asking – about the artist who also has Norwegian song collaboration on the track record.

Perhaps it is precisely the attention of the news giant that is needed for the 26-year-old from Bewdley in Worcestershire to get his name and face known.

The BBC has only really opened its eyes to the singer – after attending their own Radio 1’s Virtual Big Weekend Festival in May.

In a single video recording from his own bedroom, Becky sang a medley of popular songs from the last decade, “Gecko (Overdrive)” with Oliver Heldens from 2013 and last year’s hits “I Wish You Well” (with Sigala) and “Lose Control” (with Meduza). The songs have a total of hundreds of millions of views on Spotify.

«For many of the listeners, it was an aha experience when they realized that Becky Hill was the voice behind some of the last decade’s biggest hit songs», Writes the BBC.

They refer to comments from people who say they have heard the songs countless times, not really knowing who is singing.

Rebecca Claire Hill, as she is really called, is used to it. She tells the BBC that when she was heating up for The Script on their tour earlier this year, she experienced the same reaction every night.

– I went on stage, and midway through my set I asked the audience how many people did not know who I was by name: Then many hands came in the weather, she says.

– It’s so nice to see them come loose and sing the lyrics while saying, “I had no idea this was you!”, She adds.

“Norwegian” hit

In Norway, Becky has been on stage both at the VG Lista show at City Hall Square in 2016 and during the Nobel Gala the following year. Then as a duet partner with Norwegian Matoma (29) on his hit song “False Alarm”. However, it is not included in the video.

Hill started her career as a participant in British “The Voice” in 2012, where she sang for the semi-finals. In the years that followed, she mainly lived as a songwriter for other artists – while also working as a bartender.

She has been signed to Polydor since 2017, but it is only now that she is about to get a solid hit under only her own name – the newly launched “Better Off Without You”.

The song was written while it was ending with the boyfriend, whom she does not reveal the name of. The pair have since found their way back to each other.

Becky admits that it has been frustrating only to be considered a “featured artist”.

– At the same time, it has been okay when I have been working on my own album without feeling so much pressure, she says.

Asked if she is ready to get out of what the BBC describes as an “anonymous existence”, the 26-year-old replies:

– Yes! When I’m home in Bewdley, I’m treated like a local celebrity, and it feels very, very strange. But I am looking forward – hopefully – to real success. I feel like I’ve been working on this album throughout my career, so I want as many people as possible to hear it.
