IRPEF Deadline: Payment in Installments and Merging of Tax Rates in 2024

In these festive days no one wants to think about taxes, but there is a deadline to keep in mind: see Irpef.

The announcement was made before the Christmas holidays and was welcomed as a welcome gift under the tree: for natural persons with a VAT number with a turnover (revenues or compensation relating to the 2022 tax period) within 170 thousand euros it is granted the payment in installments (monthly and up to 5) of the second Irpef advance, with the payment date has been postponed from 30 November 2023 to 16 January 2024. For flat rates, however, the music changes.

The “gift” to taxpayers was one of the objectives of the tax reform envisaged by the Meloni government, conceived precisely with the aim of distributing the tax burden more equitably during the fiscal year, without prejudice to the methods of calculating the amount to be deposit. Taxpayers will therefore have the possibility to dilute the payment of the tax due into 5 monthly installments – between January and May 2024. But be careful if you don’t meet the deadline.

The payment of Irpef from A to Z

We remember that Taxpayers for whom the tax – net of any deductions, tax credits and withholdings – exceeds 51.65 euros are required to pay the IRPEF advance.. The Irpef advance payment due corresponds to 100% of the tax declared during the year, and must be paid in one or two installments, depending on the amount. Specifically, if the amount is less than 257.52 euros, a single payment must be made by November 30th. If it exceeds that value, the first installment (equal to 40% of the amount due) must be paid by June 30th, and the second (the remaining 60%) by November 30th, usually in a single payment.

The deadline to comply is January 16th and must be respected to avoid incurring heavy fines. (Thewisemagazine.it)

As mentioned, an exception is foreseen for this year for the second Irpef advance, but the last date to comply is January 16th and must be respected absolutely, to avoid incurring heavy fines. The postponement is also extended to the payment, in a single solution, of the advance payment relating to income taxes. As regards family businesses and marital businesses, however, the extension is applicable only to the owner and not to collaborators.

Among the pillars of the Meloni government’s tax reform there is also the merging of the first two Irpef rates: in 2024 the brackets will be reduced from four to three, merging the first two into a single rate – at 23%. In particular, the new rates in force from next year will be the following:

  • 23% for those with incomes up to 28,000 euros
  • 35% for incomes between 28,000 euros and 50,000 euros
  • 43% for those with incomes above 50,000 euros.

For income from employment up to 8,500 euros, however, the no tax area applies (equal to that already in force for pensioners).
