Iranian-supplied drones pose a new threat to the Ukrainian military

Over the past week, Iranian “Shahed” drones, repainted in Russian colors and renamed “Geranium 2”, began appearing on the armored and artillery positions of the Ukrainian army in the Kharkiv region, the artillery commander revealed. of the 92nd Mechanized Brigade of Ukraine, Rodion Kulagin.

In the operational area of his brigade alone, Iranian drones destroyed two 152mm self-propelled howitzers and two 122mm self-propelled howitzers, as well as two BTR armored vehicles, Kulagins said.

Russia also hit the US-supplied M777 howitzer with an Iranian drone.

So far, Russia has mainly used Iranian drones in the Kharkiv region, where the Ukrainian military launched a large-scale counterattack this month.

Iranian drones are relatively small and fly very low, making it difficult for Ukrainian air defense systems to intercept them, Kulagin explained.

He expressed hope that the US and its allies will either provide Ukraine with more advanced anti-drone technology or help stop the supply of Iranian drones to Russia.
