“Iranian hackers attack Dutch universities and sell teaching materials” – Computer – News

Iranian state hackers would still focus on educational institutions, despite previous US charges. Dutch universities, among others, would be targeted. The attackers resell Dutch teaching materials in Iran.

This is the same group that was sued by the United States in 2018 for stealing 31.5 TB of data from American and international universities and companies. That is the conclusion of consultancy firm PwC after research, NOS writes.

According to PwC, the attackers are mainly looking for teaching materials in order to be able to offer this at low rates on Iranian sites. In addition, the attackers publish login data for digital libraries that Iranian students can use.

In recent months, hackers who have ties with the Iranian government have focused on at least three Dutch universities and a higher professional education institution, according to PwC. The company does report that it is difficult to find out exactly which files have been deleted. The Netherlands also appears to be a relatively small target vis-à-vis English-speaking educational institutions.
