Details: M/S CHEM PLUTO, a Liberian-flagged chemical tanker owned by Japan and operated by the Netherlands, was struck by an attack drone on Saturday at approximately 10 a.m. local time in the Indian Ocean, 200 nautical miles off the coast of India.

There were no casualties, and the fire on board the tanker was extinguished.

US Naval Forces Central Command is in contact with the ship that was struck. There were no US Navy ships nearby, the department said.

The Indian Coast Guard said on social media that the vessel had 21 crew members on board and that “the vessel has started moving towards Mumbai.”

The strike in the Indian Ocean comes as Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have carried out more than 100 attacks on a dozen commercial and merchant ships traveling through the Red Sea over the past four weeks.
