Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian announced that his country “welcomes any initiative aimed at ending the war in Yemen,” stressing Iran’s interest in improving relations with its neighbors, describing the resumption of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia as “a step forward in the right direction.”
Abdullahian said during a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, in Moscow, “It takes some time to advance relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran. Abdullahian pointed out the importance of pushing any efforts to “bring peace,” stressing that he will soon hold a meeting with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, to accelerate the strengthening of relations between the two countries.
In turn, Lavrov praised China’s role in mediating between Saudi Arabia and Iran, and saw that the step contributes to launching the path of a political settlement in Yemen, purifying the regional atmosphere, and searching for settlements to outstanding issues.
