WhatsApp has now, after it was announced in February, released a new feature that initially only Android users could benefit from. Now it is also available for the iPhone, the opinions are divided.

Already known and used by many: voice messages simply make it easier for us to avoid long texts or to pass on important messages quickly and easily. Now it is also finally possible to do this Voice messages in WhatsApp story to use. After the latest update 23.5.77 you can now use your own voice for a maximum of 30 seconds record and share in the story.

This is how you can easily use the feature:

To be able to use the voice message in your own WhatsApp story, you simply have to follow these steps:

  • First go to the status area in WhatsApp
  • Then press the pencil in the bottom right
  • Now all you have to do is press the audio icon on the bottom right and record a 30-second audio for the story

Even if you have been waiting for this feature for a long time, there are still some criticisms coming from the users.

The problem with the new feature:

Although the status audio looks like the voice messages from the chats, they work differently: Instead of simply “swiping up and letting go” as you know it from the chats, you now have to activate the new function, keep the microphone button pressed. For the user, of course, rather unwieldy.

Here’s how users responded to the new version in a Twitter poll:

After WhatsApp released the new feature, a poll was launched via Twitter, allowing users to vote on which of the two voicemail features they prefer. However, the results seem not particularly for the voice message in the story to speak because, as already mentioned, the long press is too unwieldy for recording.

There are also votes for it, but the majority, with a total of approx 9000 votes, speaks more for the older voicemail feature that was already available in chats before the update.
