IPhone X USB-C sells for over $ 86,000

Robotics student Ken Pillonel managed to mount a working USB-C port on an iPhone X, and last week the prototype went on sale. Last night the auction ended and after 116 bids the winner was $ 86,001.

IPhone auctions have ended

The auction was stable at $ 85,000 last week and in the last few days has managed to climb to $ 86,001. There were a few offers on top of that, but these were later withdrawn, including a fraudulent $ 1 million offer that was removed within an hour of being posted.

According to Pillonel, the first step was to make sure the electronics were working, then he reverse-engineered the Apple C94 connector and created a custom PCB with a female USB-C port. Once the diagrams were completed, the port was installed in the phone which then worked effortlessly.

The winner gets a “real collector’s piece for any Apple fan out there,” as the engineer put it, but the new owner doesn’t have to reset, update or erase the device, nor the use as daily pilot. He also shouldn’t tinker with the interns, but it’s not like any warranty would be voided if he does.
