Why I’m going to choose the iPhone 12 mini

With four new iPhone models on the way this fall, the choice is greater than ever. But although the three successors to the 2019 iPhones all sound impressive, my choice was quickly made: the iPhone 12 mini has everything it takes to become the smartphone I’ve been around since the introduction of the iPhone X on watch.

That has everything to do with the first iPhone SE: At the time, the device achieved great success by packing the best specifications in a compact housing. Four years later, Apple released the iPhone SE 2020 from.

Although that device also has a very strong chip, Apple omitted a compact housing. Moreover, the iPhone 8 design is now outdated. That makes the iPhone SE 2020 a very fast budget topper, but not the iPhone I am looking for.

Compact and high-end at the same time

I didn’t seem to be alone: ​​throughout the year there is a large group visible on social media and internet forums that want a compact iPhone, but do not want to compromise on design and functionality. The iPhone 12 mini seems to have been designed for this target group.

With a 5.4-inch display that fills the front, you still have a larger screen than the iPhone SE 2020 or iPhone 8, but the case can remain a lot smaller. Moreover, the 12 mini does not compromise on high-end functions: the device would get an OLED screen and a double camera lens on the back.

This allows you to take better photos with the wide-angle lens and supports the impressive Night mode that the iPhone 11 introduced last year.

Just at the right time

This makes the iPhone 12 mini a compact smartphone, without having to compromise on functionality. Fortunately, because in the meantime the screen sizes of the other three iPhones are increasing: the 5.8 inch screen of the still somewhat compact iPhone 11 Pro would grow to 6.1 inches this year.

After a year with the iPhone 11 Pro Max with its gigantic 6.5 inch display I now know for sure that I am not waiting for that. The large screen is great for playing games or watching videos, but I use my iPad for those things.

The rest of the time it is a bulky device to have in your pocket, which is also awkward to operate with one hand. That the iPhone 12 mini would be the cheapest iPhone of the four is of course only a bonus.

We probably don’t have to wait for the new iPhones for very long. According to leaked information, Apple would release a Organize iPhone 12 event on October 13, where the four aircraft are finally revealed.
