iPhone 12: Bloomberg confirms a change in design

Mark Gurman and Debby Wu, journalists for the American newspaper Bloomberg, report new information regarding the annual batch of iPhones. These statements corroborate what we had already learned earlier this year from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Mac Otakara, the Japanese site.

Two iPhones with the lines of the iPad Pro

This is undoubtedly the main information to retain from the article by the two journalists, who provide confirmation of what was still only a rumor: the iPhone 12 will be inspired by the design of the iPad Pro. In particular, the straight and straight edges will be reproduced, a bit like on the iPhone 4 to 5S models. Yes, but here it is: only the Pro models (iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max) will have the chance to see this new aesthetic. Their successors will indeed look like them the less they should see the size of their screen change.

The iPhone 12 Pro could switch to a 6.1-inch panel when the iPhone 12 Pro Max adopted a 6.7-inch panel – information that we once again learned about thanks to Ming-Chi Kuo. The iPhone 11, it would see two new models succeed it, but these would keep the same design as that introduced with the iPhone X in 2017.

Gurman and Wu also specify that Apple would like to reduce the size of the notch, without indicating whether this will concern the four models planned for this end of the year or only the Pro versions. The American firm plans to completely rid this 2021 iPhones of this notch. We can imagine that it is already working to place Face ID directly under the slab, which would be a great technical feat. As on the new iPad Pro, the iPhone 12 Pro would offer a LiDAR sensor in addition to the three sensors already present, which should not change too much compared to the models of 2019. In addition, the new processor equipping these iPhones should be significantly turned to augmented reality, offering better performance on this point.

To conclude, the article by Bloomberg indicates that the release of these phones could be delayed due to the current pandemic. Usually, new iPhone models go on sale around the end of September.
